It’s time to look at the myths about CBD and debunk them once and for all. We’re going check out different things you may or may not have heard and whether or not they are myths about CBD. Let’s look through all the fake news that we see about this magical compound and see if we can weed out all of the myths about CBD.
1. CBD gets you high
This one is first on the list because it’s probably one of the biggest myths about CBD that there is. Let’s get this straight, CBD cannot get you high. THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, can get you high and it is a known psychoactive compound, but CBD, cannabidiol, is not and there are no mind-altering effects experienced if you take a pure CBD product.
The misconception is that many ‘CBD’ products also contain THC. Why is that? Well to understand these myths about CBD, you have to know more about where it comes from. CBD is one of the many cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant; THC is another. It’s very easy to extract both the THC and CBD from cannabis, but it’s a little bit more complicated to extract just the CBD. That’s why many CBD products still contain “<0.3% THC” or have a similar warning. It all depends on how the CBD was extracted.
Hemp CBD is great because the plants naturally have a very low THC content, making them a whole different barrel of fish. Hemp is on the verge of being legal in the USA and is already legal in Canada, making it an easy and effective way of getting CBD-pure products that will have no psychoactive effects.
Not only does CBD not make you high, but it also has been shown to diminish the psychoactive effects of THC, therefore making you less high. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
2. There are no pure CBD products
Thankfully that’s one of the many myths about CBD. For a long time, it may have been the case, but this is just because there wasn’t enough research and development taking place. Now that more and more money is being invested in cannabis, more ways of extracting and isolating the different compounds have been found.
To check if a CBD product is pure, you just have to look on the label. These products are very open about the information and have undergone strict tests before hitting the shelves – you can trust what you read on CBD products. Your average product on the market has <0.3% THC which is completely safe and results in no psychoactive effects, like some of Fuggin Hemp Co.’s Sour Apply Gummies.
But if this isn’t good enough, then it’s time to introduce the 100% THC free CBD products. There are plenty of products now on the market, including Diamond CBD infused gummy bears.
The extraction takes place as normal, but then the CBD compounds are isolated, allowing them to separate them from THC and other cannabinoids. They also use hemp plants, which means they’re is already barely any THC, to begin with. You’re going to pay a little bit extra for such high-quality CBD extract, but it’s not going to break the bank.
3. I’m not in pain, I don’t need CBD
CBD is not only for pain use. Many people think CBD is only for pain, but these myths about CBD are limiting so many people from accessing this medicine. It’s great for a whole host of things and even just good as a daily supplement in micro doses.
CBD and other cannabinoids are found to have profound healing effects on the body, not only providing pain relief but also decreasing seizures in epilepsy sufferers, helping people fall asleep, improving memory and motor functions for those suffering from Alzheimers and Parkinsons, and helping with psychological disorders like depression, PTSD, and schizophrenia.
At the moment the full scope of CBD’s uses are still unknown and we are learning a great deal as time goes on. There was research conducted as late back as 1998 that discussed the healing effects of CBD with other cannabinoids and terpenes found in cannabis plants.
It was found and is being proved to be true, that the compounds present in cannabis work better when together. A sort of ‘team effort’ that makes them all work better individually. This amazing phenomenon is known as the ‘entourage effect’. This entourage effect is also changing the way we see CBD and the various healing effects it may have.
4. All CBD products are the same
This also isn’t true and is another one of our myths about CBD. The two main reasons why this isn’t true is the entourage effect and the different types of CBD extract available. CBD can be extracted from different cannabis plants. Cannabis sativa, cannabis indica, and hemp plants are the main sources.
All of these plants are similar in that they all contain cannabinoids and terpenes, but how these are made-up is completely different. Some plants contain higher levels of THC, while others have terpenes that make for a drowsy feeling. It all depends on the cannabis plant used. Yes, the CBD compound present in all the plants are the same, but when combined with other cannabinoids and other terpenes, completely different medicinal effects are experienced – the entourage effect.
There are products that have a combination of different cannabinoids and terpenes and others that are 100% pure CBD, removing everything else. All of these products will have different effects.
5. CBD oil is addictive
These myths about CBD are getting a bit much. CBD does not work on the same receptors as THC and has no psychoactive effects. The high from THC is what people worry causes addiction, but even this has very little backing. CBD has no psychoactive effects so there is no worry about addiction.
However, CBD does stimulate your dopamine and serotonin levels which makes you feel good. This means people will want to do it more often, but it’s the same reason why hugging someone or exercising feels good – it releases dopamine.
Our bodies are designed to react to certain things in certain ways, and CBD stimulates a positive reaction in the body. Anyone suffering from pain would understandably want to do it again. So whether that is addiction or not is very difficult to say.
